OEKO-TEX® standards enable everyone to make responsible decisions and protect natural resources.
Quality clothing starts with the details. To ensure that every component of our garments are safe for human health, we have set our product standards to be OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified.
OEKO-TEX® is the world’s leading certification of textiles tested for harmful substances. Each garment component has been tested for harmful substances and declared safe; therefore aligned with our standard of quality at Original Favorites.
What is OEKO-TEX Certified® Apparel?
From the coating on the zippers to the print that is on the garment, every component goes through the testing process to ensure its safety. With everything that goes into producing garments, it is imperative that all apparel components are examined when going the extra step to give the consumer confidence and accreditation of quality. This ensures that no part of the garment is harmful to human or environmental health.
Unfortunately, the dyeing process of clothing can use harmful substances such as formaldehyde. The OEKO-TEX® certification is designed to ensure that the result of apparel dyeing and wet-processing does not have a negative effect on human or environmental health. This ensures that garments are safe for manufacturers, consumers, and the environment.
OEKO-TEX® certificates are exclusively issued by neutral and independent testing institutes. Their strict test criteria is globally standardized and updated annually based on new scientific information or statutory requirements.
The OEKO-TEX® Certification
Being OEKO-TEX certified provides us and our customers with the knowledge that our products are not made with harmful clothing, meaning no harmful chemicals that could hurt the environment or the consumer can be traced in our products. Our organic certifications also deals with the sustainability of our products, but instead ensures our products are 100% organic. This certification checks the entirety of our supply chain and ensures our products are built in a truly sustainable and organic manner from the farming process all the way to the final labeling stage. Both certifications are important when producing high quality garments and therefore are important for us to have and share with our customers.
Quality Products | Product Safety | Globally Accepted Standards
- Only certified dyes and chemicals can be used in production, ensuring that certified products meet safety inspections.
- Azo colourants, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium, nickel, etc. are harmful to human and environmental health and are banned substances.
- OEKO-TEX® fabric's test criteria are globally standardized and are updated at least once a year on the basis of new scientific information or statutory requirements.
The Importance of Non Toxic Clothing
The sad reality is that many of the garments that are produced use residual dyes, hazardous chemicals, heavy metals, microfibers, and mordants to help bond dyes with fabric. Many of these synthetic dyes, specifically azo dyes, are carcinogenic and are therefore not found in non-toxic cotton. Azo dyes are water-soluble making them easy for skin to absorb and, as a result, may cause skin and eye irritation. Being non-toxic certified guarantees no trace of these harmful chemicals in any of our products.
Even though most countries have banned these toxic dyes, there are still parts of the world that still use these in production to support the high demand of fast fashion. Many countries can’t access clean drinking or bathing water because of the contamination caused by harmful dyes. This effect of apparel production is obviously very harmful and not sustainable, which leads us to be different and prioritize safety by producing non-toxic wholesale clothing.
